Offbeat Employment Opportunities in the Film Industry

The film industry has always been a coveted industry where many hopefuls go to achieve their goals of fame and fortune. Unfortunately, there is only a small handful of actors that make it big and rise to the top tiers of the industry.

Nevertheless, all it takes is a foot in the door and the right people to notice you. For this reason, any avenues or opportunities should be explored and it just so happens that there are some offbeat employment opportunities.

Every movie has stunts

There are not many actors who are willing to do their own stunts. Then again, there are not many directors who want to risk their stars getting injured, which is why stunt doubles are always needed. Of course, the audience will think that you are someone else, but the people on set who make the calls will get to know the real you.

To get an overall skill set to act as a stunt double, you need some extra training and bodyguard school is the perfect place to get it. At Pacific West Academy, you will be trained by some of the best in the business and learn everything from evasive driving to weapon control and self-defense.

Become a bodyguard

When it comes to acting and the entertainment business, people can get weird. It often happens that actors are followed by stalkers and need genuine protection. You could land a job as a bodyguard for one of the big names in the industry and get a foot in the door that way as well.

The best part of the job is that you go wherever the star goes and get paid to travel and see the world. Although you will be on the clock when everyone else is taking some time off, at least you can start building a relationship and get to know some influential people.

Artistry

No one ever said that you have to spend your days as a makeup artist in a stuffy salon filled with ladies who complain the whole time. If you have the skill, you could become a makeup artist for movies.

Whenever there is blood and other injuries involved, it takes a particular set of skills to mimic the real deal. Makeup artists are the ones who bring a sense of realism to the movies. They are the ones who work behind the scenes to bring the best characters to life.

Sound engineers

There is not a single modern movie that does not rely on quality sound. If you listen carefully, those screeching tires, the creak in the door, and the gentle whisper of the wind are all the handiwork of a sound engineer that tirelessly adds music and sound effects to bring some color and flair to a film.

The sound engineers have superior listening skills and can tell you when a voice is too loud or when the music is starting to take over. They are the ones who bring balance between what we want to hear in the background and what we listen to in the foreground.

Carpentry

Movies are shot all over the world and although there are marked locations for movies, they still need sets. The houses and buildings where movies are shot are generally built from scratch and require carpenters to do their thing.

Not everyone in this world is skilled at working with power tools, not to mention having the skill to build something from scratch. Carpenters are always needed on set and if you can prove your skill, your number could be called on a more frequent basis.
