Dear Nebraska Public Defender Community:
NSBA Report Available on Nebraska Court Appointed Counsel Rates by County (2025)
Just outcomes in the criminal justice system require capable counsel for both the state and the defendant. Nebraska's indigent defense system relies both on public defenders and court appointed attorneys. It has recently been reported that the number of lawyers willing to take court appointments has decreased significantly in a number of counties, threatening the administration of justice in our state. The NSBA developed a publication in 2022 reporting on the court appointed counsel fees across the state. That report has recently been updated with 2025 data. We hope this is a useful resource for your respective jurisdictions. Moving forward, the NSBA intends to periodically update this resource. If the rates in your county change, we would appreciate if you would notify the NSBA so that we can keep this resource current (please email me at Lneeley@nebar.com). Click here to access the 2025 Report.
Sincerely,
Liz Neeley
