    Dear City Attorneys:

In January of 2024, the NSBA established this online community exclusively for city attorneys in Nebraska to share resources about substantive legal issues and to connect with other lawyers facing similar legal questions. In May of 2025, the NSBA hosted its first seminar developed specifically for city attorneys. Given the strong participation and engagement, we are wondering if there is interest in starting a new Section of the NSBA for City Attorneys?

Beyond this online community, there are a number of benefits to becoming an official Section of the NSBA. Sections offer leadership opportunities, specialized legal education, and opportunities to connect, mentor and collaborate. Sections also receive staff support from the Association in meeting their goals. Operating as an official Section of the NSBA would also allow city attorneys the opportunity to develop a structured process by which you can provide feedback about proposed state legislation to the NSBA as it develops its legislative positions.

The initial proposed purpose of a City Attorney Section would be: 1)To foster and maintain the honor, dignity and integrity of the legal profession; 2) to provide a statewide forum for city attorneys to share and expand their knowledge and practice skills; and 3) to cultivate social and professional relationships among the section's members.  (This proposed purpose statement could be amended by the Section once established).  The process to establish a new Section of the Nebraska State Bar Association is for 20 members to petition the NSBA House of Delegates to establish a Section. To that end, I am hyperlinking an electronic Petition to Establish a City Attorneys Section. If you support the creation of a new City Attorney Section, please add your name and bar number to this electronic petition by September 30th. If you would be interested in becoming involved in leadership for this new Section, please indicate that through the link as well.

Questions? Ideas? Please feel free to reach out. I will report back to the online community whether there is sufficient interest to move forward. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Liz Neeley
