    Dear City Attorneys Section: 
     
    Tomorrow is your last chance to register for the June 12 City Attorneys Seminar in Kearney. This program examines legal and ethical issues commonly encountered in municipal practice, including the role of municipal counsel, nuisance abatement and code enforcement, recent legislative developments, public records and open meetings requirements, and professional responsibility in representing governmental entities. It also addresses challenges that arise in advising local officials and managing day-to-day municipal legal matters.
     
    CLE Information 
     
    This seminar is approved for 5.75 hours of CLE credit in Nebraska, including 1.0 hour of ethics credit.

    Municipal Attorney 101: Foundations for Effective Representation

    This introductory session provides a practical overview of municipal practice for newer or occasional municipal attorneys. Topics include the structure of local government, key statutory frameworks, attorney roles and responsibilities, and effective communication with councils, boards, and staff.

Attendees will also gain strategies applicable to broader code enforcement issues, including animal, vehicle, and noise violations.

    Nebraska Public Records and Open Meetings: A Primer and Recent Developments

    This presentation is intended to provide an overview of the Nebraska Public Records Statutes and Open Meetings Act. This will also give insight into the Attorney General's process for handling public records and Open Meetings Act petitions and general recommendations for local bodies to maintain compliance with statute.

    Who Is the Client? Navigating Ethical Duties in Municipal Practice

    Municipal attorneys often face complex questions about who the "client" truly is - the municipality, the governing body, or individual officials. This ethics-focused session explores how to navigate conflicts of interest, confidentiality, divided councils, and requests for personal legal advice, while maintaining professional independence.

    Closing Panel: Practical Issues in Municipal Law

             I have not been able to get registered online for this seminar which I Would like to attend.  Please let me know how I can get registered.  I am not very adept at using email so I would appreciate a phone call so that I can get registered and make the necessary payment.  My office number on June 10th is (308) 425-6273.

    Hello there! I have actually gotten a few questions about this, so I am going to "reply all" in case it's helpful to others.

     

    You can definitely join the seminar virtually on June 12. When you click on "register", it will ask you in a later question if you'd like to attend virtually or in person. Just make your selection, and that's it! Should be pretty simple, but please let me know if you have trouble.

     

    For those who cannot make it Friday regardless, we will be recording the session and (pending the quality turns out good), we will plan to post it to our OnDemand platform. As a heads up, we are undergoing a platform upgrade for our OnDemand, so OnDemand sessions will be available again starting July 1. If that date changes, we will communicate that.
