GROWING UP

Joshua was born and raised in southeast Nebraska. He grew up in the small town of Syracuse, Nebraska, the son of a railroad laborer father and homemaking mother.  He has one older sister, one younger brother, and one younger sister.  Throughout school Joshua participated in athletics, primarily football and wrestling, and was active in his local Boy Scout troop.  As he began approaching the end of high school, he quickly realized that he didn't want to follow his fellow classmates on their journe to college.  Rather, he chose to 'sign on the dotted line' and began a career in the United States Marine Corps in June 2003.

SERVICE ABROAD

From 2003 to 2011, Joshua served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  During the first four years of his service he worked as a communications specialist, and during the last four years he worked as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician.  He quickly rose through the ranks, starting as a lowly private, ending his service as a Staff Sergeant, and received a combat meritorious promotion to Sergeant along the way.  He served two tours of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In 20111, Joshua was forced to decide between continuing his service to the nation and coming back home to start a family with the love of his life.  Without reservation, he chose the latter.

RETURNING HOME

Upon returning home in July 2011, Joshua began attending the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, and in 2013 he graduated with distinction.  Following graduation, he was accepted into the UNL College of Law.  He graduated with distinction in 2016.  Some of his academic achievements are:

  • McGrath North Mullin & Kratz Excellence in Legal Writing Award Winner

  • Schmid Honor Scholar 2014-2016

  • Constitution Law Research Assistant to Prof. Richard Duncan

  • Arthur Bruce Winter Constitutional Law Award

Josh is married to his lovely wife, Stephanie, and the two of them have three beautiful children.
